xuvtools: expected file-size for overlay is calculated wrong

Reported by: ne704 [niko@… Owned by: emmenlau
Priority: unimportant Milestone:
Component: xuvtools Version:
Keywords: xuvtools, xuvtools_gui Cc: niko@…, mario@…

when saving an overlay, the GUI issues a message to the output console "Creating overlay image, size (...)px = .... MB"

the displayed size doesn't correspond to the real size of the file afterwards, neither compressed nor uncompressed. we should either fix the calculation or remove the message.

cheers, niko

This is indeed irritating. The size mentioned should be the size of the overlay array, for a single channel and single timepoint. Therefore, you are right, it is not the size of the file (which can have multiple channels, and which can have multiresolution stacks for each channel). It is still a useful message, because it is the size that the next malloc is trying to allocate - and a likely candidate for failure!

I agree its not perfect, we should add more information so the user understands. But I'm still closing the bug because for a developer the message is useful, and all others should not care? If you find it very annoying, I can increase the message verbosity to 6 or so. Fair enough? :-)

But I'm happy with just having a more precise message there, so I fixed this in r3166. Please have a look if this is fine for you.
