open Imaris files with quickopen button fails on Network path/drive

Reported by: FAIM-FMI Patrick Schwarb Owned by: emmenlau
Priority: unimportant Milestone:
Component: xuvtools_gui Version: 1.8.0-final

Description

After stitched the launch Imaris seems only to save the file but not launching the application. Maybe there is some preferences to set which we are not aware of.

Thanks for the report!

There is no special setting required. When using the "open in Imaris" button, XuvTools? will do the following: It will first save the overlay image, and then call the Operating System with this file. It is the job of the Operating System (Windows) to start a useful application associated with this file type (which should be Imaris, but Xuvtools can not control that).

Can you please do two things:

  • Send me which exact version of Windows and Imaris are you using?
  • Can you double-click the saved overlay file and tell me what happens? Will it open in Imaris on this machine?

Is there any updates for this report? Need more information to fix :-(

I have installed the new version of Imaris 7.2. beta2. It still does not open. The file is created on disc and by doubleklick it opens imaris 7.2 beta2 correctly. I'm using windows 7 operating system 64bit. Anything more

Thanks! Two more questions:

  • Does the path contain spaces? Can you save somewhere on C:\ or D:\ directly to make sure there are no spaces for a test?
  • Is the path where you save a network drive?

  • summary changed from launching Imaris to open Imaris files with quickopen button fails on Network path/drive
  • type changed from defect to enhancement
  • version changed from 1.8.0-beta12 to 1.8.0-beta13
  • milestone changed from XuvTools-1.8.0-final to XuvTools-1.9.0-final

After detailed analysis, it seems the files have been on a Network drive. For arbitrary reasons, Windows does not open Files from Network drives with the associated application.

Setting for a future revision, since it is not straightforward to solve, and not a general issue.

  • milestone XuvTools-1.9.0-final deleted

Decreasing severity of this issue, since I assume there is not much that can be done :-(
